Olympus Introduces Industry-First Next-Day Product Replacement Guarantee for Surgical Business

“Olympus Uptime Guarantee” offers no-hassle surgical equipment replacement, eliminating the need for loaners and minimizing cancelled procedures resulting from out-of-service equipment

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., (June 30, 2015) – Olympus, a global technology leader in designing and delivering innovative solutions for medical and surgical procedures, among other core businesses, announced today it is guaranteeing next-day replacements for surgical equipment at no additional charge. Olympus is the first surgical product manufacturer to offer this type of guarantee. The service became available to customers with an Olympus Full Service Agreement earlier this year.

Olympus’ Full Service Agreement provides customers complete repair coverage, including accidental damage, with no cap for contracted equipment. The Olympus Uptime Guarantee  joins the existing array of benefits including 24/7 technical phone support, on-site field support and the convenience of a single purchase order good for the length of the service contract, among others. Next-day replacement guarantees equipment is readily available for customers so they can return to patient care quickly, without reducing valuable time Olympus uses to repair equipment safely.

“Canceled procedures can be costly for healthcare facilities and frustrating for patients,” said Bob Reinhardt, Vice President – Group Marketing, Service and Sales Operations, Medical Systems Group at Olympus Corporation of the Americas. “This is counterproductive for administrators seeking ways to meet the triple aim of healthcare reform – to reduce costs and spending while enhancing patient safety and satisfaction. The Olympus Uptime Guarantee helps achieve these goals by minimizing the number of canceled procedures resulting from out- of-service equipment.”

“One of the main advantages I see in using Olympus’ Uptime Guarantee is with the 24-hour turnaround time. We wouldn’t have to maintain as large of an inventory to meet our needs,” said Robert Ward, Perioperative Equipment Resource Specialist at St John Hospital. “The fast turnaround would increase productivity – we would not need to wait on loaners or increase inventory to meet the demand. And with the charge only for the repair instead of a replacement cost, this could equate to savings in the long run.”

Olympus America Inc. is the only manufacturer-authorized service dealer for Olympus medical and surgical products in the United States. With eight locations nationwide, including an 80,000-square-foot National Service Center located in San Jose, Calif., Olympus’ network of highly trained equipment specialists can quickly and cost-effectively provide comprehensive repair services on Olympus equipment.

More than 115,000 repairs are performed annually in the San Jose facility by more than 300 factory-trained technicians. Olympus has maintained a 99 percent success rate in achieving next-day service through the Advanced Replace Program. On average, Olympus processes 12,000 Advanced Replace Program repairs per year.

To take advantage of the Olympus Uptime Guarantee, customers must have active Full Service Agreement coverage starting on or after January 1, 2015 for products on Olympus’ current Uptime Guarantee product list. Equipment in need of service must be reported to the Olympus Service Center between Monday and Friday by 8:00 p.m. EST to ensure delivery the next business day.
